First Holy Communion

The preparation for First Holy Communion usually begins when the candidate is in 2nd class in primary school. The preparation involves the cooperation of the school, the Church, the family and the wider parish community. This partnership enables children to gain a richer understanding of the sacrament and engage more comprehensively in the programme for preparation. Preparation for First Holy Communion includes preparing and receiving the sacrament of First Reconciliation (or First Confession).

Our Parish Sacramental Preparation Team works with the candidate, their family and the school throughout this year to develop a deeper understanding of the Mass and the sacrament of First Holy Communion.

All children must be baptised before First Confession.
If you need to arrange baptism for your child please contact the parish office.
Saturday, January 30th at 4pm in Holy Spirit Church has been set aside for the baptism of older children. This date is entirely optional — families are welcome to arrange a baptism at any time before First Confession.
However, if any child would prefer to be baptised alongside others of a similar age, this date may be a suitable option.

Proof of baptism is a requirement in order to receive the Sacraments of First Confession and First Holy Communion.

If your child was baptised in any of the Parish Churches - (Virgin Mary, Holy Spirit or St. Joseph's) - you do not need to supply a baptism certificate. The parish will be able to verify your child's baptism in our parish registers.

If your child was baptised in any other Church,  please contact that Church and request a baptism certificate.

When you get the baptism certificate, please post it or drop it in to the Parish Office

or email a copy of it to stpappinssacraments@gmail.com

The Parish Office is open Monday to Thursday 9am-2pm
