Come Holy Spirit

We quickly recognise people who are full of the Spirit. They bring energy, joy and life to us and enrich us in so many ways. We will often come away from them feeling encouraged and uplifted.

As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost this weekend we give thanks for the great gift of the Holy Spirit poured into our hearts at our Baptism. That’s the good news; we are all full of the Spirit. When we allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us, we are renewed and can in turn enrich the lives of others. The Spirit awakens what is best in us and enables us to witness to the values that Jesus lived and died for. We will be recognised as followers of Jesus by our love. The Spirit draws us into a communion of life where love thrives bringing peace and hope to us and to our world.

The young people who received the sacrament of Confirmation last year shared what the Holy Spirit meant to them:

God coming to us in a very special way

God helping us to make the right decisions

The Holy Spirit is great to have in our hearts and we are so lucky

The Holy Spirit picks us up when we are sad and is always with us

The Holy Spirit represents freedom and bravery

Holy Spirit brings us a good mind-set

As we listen to this hymn we light a candle and take a few quiet moments. We invite the Holy Spirit to bring us strength wherever we need it most in our lives and to help us be faithful witnesses to the Lord’s way of living and loving.

Come Holy Spirit

Fill the hearts of your faithful

Enkindle in us the fire of your love
