Hope you're holding up ok through these challenging days. As we journey through this Easter Week we enter into the great gift of life and hope the Risen Jesus brings us.
On Easter Sunday Pope Francis reached out to us with his blessing and with words of encouragement and hope. When talking about the hope and joy of Easter he said that Easter is not a magic formula that makes everything right in an instant. It is the victory of love, that doesn't bypass our struggles but enables us to make our way safely through them. The Lord has not left us. He has risen from the dead and is right here with us, bringing us light where there is darkness, hope where there is despair, and life where there is death.
In today's Gospel we hear the familiar story of two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They are distraught at the death of Jesus. They don't recognise Jesus when he joins them but he walks with them. He listens to their story and helps them understand the story of his life, death and resurrection. Their hearts burn within them with new hope. They don't want Jesus to leave them and invite him: STAY WITH US. He stays with them and in the breaking of the bread their eyes are opened and they recognise him.
Let's take a few minutes today to join together in the prayer of this mantra. As we listen, we remember that the Lord listens to our story and is with us in our struggles and worries. The Lord is truly risen. As we recognise him, we grow in the hope of life and love he brings to us.
STAY WITH US O LORD JESUS CHRIST
NIGHT WILL SOON FALL
THEN STAY WITH US O LORD JESUS CHRIST
LIGHT IN OUR DARKNESS
