Over the last few years, we have experienced a series of significant leaks in the roof of Holy Spirit Church, which have caused concern among the parishioners and Pastoral Council. These leaks, which first appeared as minor drips during heavy rain, gradually worsened, leading to water damage in various areas of the church interior. In response to these issues, remedial work was undertaken to address the leaks. This included patching up problematic areas, applying sealants, and conducting temporary repairs to mitigate the immediate impact of the water intrusion. However, despite these efforts, subsequent surveys conducted by roofing specialists revealed that these temporary fixes were no longer sufficient to ensure the long-term integrity of the roof. The assessments indicated that the underlying issues were more extensive than initially thought, necessitating a comprehensive evaluation of the roof's condition and a more permanent solution to prevent further damage and to protect the structure of the church.

In December 2024, a significant construction project commenced, focusing on the installation of a new steel roof, fascia boards, and gutters. This undertaking was carried out by the skilled team at CC Construction. The project involved the careful selection of treated timber, which is essential for ensuring durability and resistance to the elements, as well as roofing sheets that meet the latest standards for insulation and weatherproofing. The new steel roof was designed to enhance the structural integrity of the building while providing a modern aesthetic that complements its overall design.

The installation process began with the removal of the old roofing materials, followed by the preparation of the underlying structure to ensure a secure fit for the new components. As the project progressed, the installation of the fascia boards and gutters was also prioritised, as these elements play a crucial role in directing rainwater away from the building and preventing potential damage.

This renovation not only aimed to improve the building's functionality but also sought to enhance its visual appeal and to provide a comfortable and inviting place of worship for all members of the community, ensuring that the church remains a cherished gathering space for years to come. The successful completion of this project stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved, marking a significant step forward in the parish's ongoing commitment to its mission and its parishioners.

Thank you to Ciarán and his team at CC Construction for their exceptional work and commitment to quality. Your expertise and professionalism have significantly contributed to the success of our project.
